Known as Scotland's Cradle of Christianity, Whithorn was an important centre of worship and pilgrimage as early as the 5th century. Roy Ritchie's excavations in the 1950's and 1960's focuses on the high status burials near the altar of a major Scottish medieval Church. This volume details the results of historical and scientific analysis of their remains. Many of the graves were richly furnished - the full assemblage of artefacts is published here for the first time.
