Declaration of Arbroath tea towel
The single event for which Arbroath is best known is the issuing of the letter known as the Declaration of Arbroath from the abbey on 6th April 1320.
Sent on behalf of the nobles of Scotland to Pope John XXII, its extraordinarily eloquent plea for the recognition of Scotland’s autonomy continues to resonate today. Forty nobles, barons and freemen affixed their seals to the Declaration.
This tea towel design is inspired by this historical event.
